Midas Touch

So I couldn’t figure out which section to post this in since it’s very obviously about sobriety, but it is also a poem, although technically I did get paid for writing it. So I’ve decided to put it in both the “Poems/Lyrics” page, as well as the “Addiction/Recovery” page. And it’s a nice break from some of the dismal and sad stuff I’ve been writing or have written in the past. Hope you like it!

lyrics by Jon W.

I’ve awakened to a new day

Filled with clarity and light

I’ve risen in a new way

A way I’ve never recognized

It’s funny how a little thing

Can turn a moment around

It brings my heart, joy to see

The laughter that surrounds

Me.

And it’s all because

I chose to see

Me for me.

Once I was lost

Now found by a new perspective

My soul embossed

With a Midas touch

I never expected

All it took was one

One decision to leave my demons behind me

All it took was one

One moment in time I decided to trust the

Twelve heart-healing lines

And one dream-making rhyme

If you want to have what I have

All to do is what I have done

But alone, you’ll never get there

The moon can’t shine without the sun.

When you reach a certain level

Of contentment in your life

You’ll understand that pure happiness

Is simply make-believe and lies

It is okay to feel lonely

It’s alright to feel sad

Just remember you’re not the only

One who’s ever felt bad

Once I was lost

Now found by a new perspective

My soul embossed

With a Midas touch

I never expected

All it took was one

One moment to make up my mind

One second to surrender my pride

One reason to take back my life

Then and there, I grew the wings and flew!

Join me in the conquest

Of ever-lasting happiness

Brothers and sisters join!

Brothers and sisters join!

Once I was lost

Now found by a new perspective

My soul embossed

With a Midas touch

I never expected

One simple moment

And the decision to survive

Led me to find a family

And the courage to say goodbye

To the demons, to the poisons

To the devil I’d consumed

For tomorrow, oh tomorrow

I know will be another

Clear and brightened

Day!
